Installing a washer/dryer combo in the Quantum JM31

When we got the call that our motorhome had arrived at the dealership in Florida we started looking for a washer/dryer to install. With all the shortages in the RV industry we were concerned about availability. We had a Splendide in the Diplomat for over 13 years and wanted to try something different. We decided to go with the Equator EZ 4400 N because it had good reviews and can be used in either unvented or vented mode. We get a 10% military discount at Lowe's so ordered it from them. It was not scheduled to arrive until May 26 so we headed on down to Florida. We did not even make it to Florida before we got an email informing us that it was ready for pickup. We kept receiving emails and the last one warned the item would be canceled on Wednesday May 26. We got home that afternoon and as soon as the coach was put in the garage we hooked up the trailer and headed to Lowe's.

Got it home and ready to start the project.

We got the unit unpacked so we could check where connections were and how we were going to get it inside the closet where the washer/dryer prep is located. The fit is very tight and we first had to remove the gas piston on the bottom of the door so the door could be opened back against the side of the coach. We also had to remove the door lock post and the grab handle. That allowed us to get the unit thru the door. Getting it into the closet would be tricky but first we had to remove the drawers, drawer frame, drawer slides, and counter top where the unit would be installed.
First take out all the drawers. Note that these drawers will not fit on the opposite side of the closet because they are not as wide. Some useful tools are a good work light and a drill with a 6 inch long Robertson square bit.

Once the drawers, countertop, and associated hardware are removed you will be able to see the hot and cold water connections, drain pipe, and AC outlet. The washer/dryer has a dedicated circuit breaker in the distribution panel. The drain and the hot and cold supply have plugs that will need to be removed. Also you will need to purchase two adapters to connect the hot and cold washer hoses to the 1/2 inch PEX connectors. While you are at the store purchase 4 furniture moving pads to go under the feet of the washer/dryer. This will help slide the unit into the closet. We did remove the cover over the water tank because the overhang reduced the width between the wall and the bed. We were able to twist and slide the unit into the closet but it is a tight fit.

Also put a cable tie on the drain hose after it is slipped into the drain to guard against it working out as the washer is used.

We put the unit in place without installing the countertop and washed and dried a load using the unvented configuration. We did not like the heat and moisture that stayed within the coach and decided to put in a vent. The space where the vent needs to go is tight so pay close attention to the location of the 4 inch hole. I took some measurements using the window as a reference but as you can see in one of the photos I still slightly missed where the 1/4 inch drill bit came thru. That is why it is very important to mark your location on the inside and drill a 1/4 inch pilot hole from the inside and then use the 4 inch hole saw on the outside. Go very slow with the hole saw. You must have a variable speed drill that will run slow and do a few turns at a time until you get thru the wall. There is a thin sheet of metal behind the lauan that must be drill thru.

After everything was in place and we wash and dried another load we put everything back together and made some keepers to place under the front feet of the unit to secure it from moving around.
